The Martydom of Italian photojournalist Raffaele Ciriello, March 13, 2002, by the adults who drive both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with their embrace of the "Bad Bad Bad B's! Barriers - Ballistics - Blockades - Bombardments - Bombs - Bullets - Bloodshed - Bodybags."
Why won't they sit down, as the South Africans did, and the Northern Irish did, and embrace the life-saving "Good B's? Bake Bread! Break Bread together!" (Breaking bread is an expression meaning to sit down together and work out differences).

In addition to the memorial portrait of the slain journalist, there are 5 insects and 18 allegorical sea monsters depicted. 

Ciriello was born August 2, 1959, Venosa, Italy. He died on March 13, 2002 in Ramallah, West Bank, after he was shot.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), he was the first foreign journalist to die while covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, winter-spring 2002, which was a continuation of the Palestinian uprising that began in September 2000.  He was was on assignment for the Italian daily Corriere della Sera. 

From the CPJ website:  

" The photographer died after being hit by a burst of machine gun fire from the direction of an Israeli tank during an Israeli military offensive in the West Bank and Gaza Strip."

The IDF (Israeli Defence Forces, i.e. military) denied culpability and responsibility. " The IDF added that journalists who entered the area were “endangering” themselves." In late August, the IDF announced that it had concluded an investigation into the incident and said that there was “no evidence and no knowledge of an [army] force that fired in the direction of the photographer.”

In a CNN news article, Mar 13, 2002: "Raffaele Ciriello, a freelancer on assignment in Ramallah for the Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, died after being shot six times."  

"Ciriello died in a hail of bullets while following Palestinian gunmen through Ramallah.

Fellow journalist Amedeo Ricucci told The Associated Press that soldiers on a tank fired a machine gun from about 150 meters without warning. 

"Suddenly a tank appeared from a corner and it opened fire," Ricucci said. "There was no fighting in the area."

As I heard (Palestinian academic) Sari Nusseibeh and (Israeli author) Amos Oz state in a talk at the Jerusalem YMCA, April 2007: "We don't have to learn to love each other, but we have to learn how to be neighbors since we're all living here already and neither side is going to go away."
