OHRA 1983

Cathedral Spire, Insect and Time

The etching seen in this photo has 2 etching plates I’d printed side-by-side:
Background:
The Krakow church spire, etching, 1984.
The plate size:  9 ¾ H x 9.5 in. W.

My records indicate I printed 8 proofs. Seven were given as gifts to individuals. One proof went to an architecture firm for possible placement in a building they were designing; the whereabouts of that proof is unknown to me.

The insect: My edition records state I made 2 different etchings of insects, in 1980.
Insect  No. 1, plate (image) size: 8 7/8 in. H x 9 ¾ W.

I’m not sure if the insect etching seen in this photo, above, is of the first (Insect # 1) or the second (Insect # 2).
The Insect No 2 etching, plate (image) size: 9 in. H x 12 3/8 W.

Of the double image proof seen here, titled
Cathedral Spire, Insect and Time (2 etching plates printed side-by-side):
My edition records indicate I printed 3 proofs with the church spire printed on the left and the insect on the right (opposite sides than the proof seen in the accompanying photo, above).
One of those, printed May 28, 1985, in blue-black etching ink on Rives paper,  was a gift to friends Robert and Ruth Hossack, of Sudbury, Suffolk, England.

A proof, printed the same date, also on white Rives etching paper, collection of Timothy Tucker, Seattle.

The proof seen in the photo, above, was printed on June 9, 1985 and submitted to the Krakow Biennale. Not accepted by the jury, I later inscribed the proof to friends in Cupar, Scotland as a wedding gift. That proof has a touch of hand-coloring, with colored pencil, in both of the etchings.
