This proof had been given to a late friend of the artist, Bill Sessions.
Sessions, born 1952, died of an aneurysm in 1989, following years of struggling with an addiction to cigarettes. He smoked menthol Benson & Hedges.
In 2018 I was contacted by someone in Utah who had bought the etching at a thrift shop. After Bill’s death, his parents had driven to Seattle and had taken both Bill’s body and his belongings to their home, in another state. They must have eventually given or sold this proof of the etching to either the thrift shop, or to someone who gave it or sold it to the thrift shop. I bartered several of my linocut prints to the fellow who had bought it and had contacted me. I plan to frame it and eventually donate it to a site which will agree to permanently install it for public viewing, e.g. the history department of a college or university.
