Bund memorial, Warsaw Jewish cemetery (small)

Art Probably drawn 1989 to ‘91
Media: Ink on matboard w/ white penciling
Size: 11 15/16 inches H x 8 W

Inspired by a memorial sculpture to the Bund in Warsaw's Jewish cemetery. The Jewish Bund was a large Jewish labor organization in Poland & Lithuania. In the years prior to WWII, tens of thousands of Bund members gathered at labor rallies, funerals and other large public events. See more extensive text with the larger Bund drawing.

I saw the memorial in Warsaw in 1984 and again in 1985. A black & white photo of the memorial is seen in the book Polish Jews – Art & Culture / Zydzi Polscy – Dzieje I kultura (pub. by Interpress, Warsaw, 1982).
