Traffic Safety: Downtown intersection poses dangers to pedestrians

How many people must be struck, maimed and killed at First and Pike downtown?

Why can’t the police begin ticketing drivers stopped in the middle of the intersection when the signal turns red, who continue driving on with pedestrians having to dodge them?

Why can’t the police ticket and/or arrest the outrageous number of drivers who barrel through the intersection after the signals have turned red?

Why can’t or won’t engineering agree with thousands of outraged pedestrians, workers, shoppers, tourists and residents (who believe that) turns off First Avenue onto Pike Street should be prohibited except for buses and bicycles?

There ought to be a law. Engineering managers, City Council members, the mayor and aides, and Seattle Police Department brass should walk through downtown like regular, normal folks at least once every few years - without motorcycle escorts!
